Asadoya Yunta - Omodaka
Asadoya Yunta is a famous traditional song from Okinawa, the southernmost prefecture in Japan. Omodaka is a solo project of Soichi Terada, a composer, arranger, and remixer who has been musically active since 1989. Omodaka's sound is characterized by the seamless mixture of Minyo (Japanese folk songs) and electronics, with vocals provided by veteran Enka singer Kanazawa Akiko.

Soran Bushi - Umekichi
Soran Bushi is a famous traditional Japanese song, which came from fishermen in Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan. Umekichi is a shamisen player and singer who performs a mix of traditional songs and early Japanese popular songs.

Shamisen Boogie Woogie - Ichimaru
Ichimaru was a geisha and popular singer (full bio here.) Shamisen Boogie Woogie was written by Hattori Ryoichi and first released in 1949. Hattori as a song composer who helped usher in a jazz boom in Japan after the end of World War II. Hattori Jazz & Jive is a collection of songs composed by Hattori, selected by Konishi Yasuharu of Pizzicato Five fame.

Days - Unkie
Unkie is Tokie (Ajico) on bass, Yutaka Aoki (downy) on guitar, and Hiroshi Kido (Jude). Originally formed temporarily for an event sponsored by a magazine, the band began recording in 2007. Too Many Secrets is the band's second album and it was recorded with Steve Albini in Chicago last year.

Night Talker - Safety Scissors Mix - Sketch Show
In 2002, Hosono Haruomi and Takahashi Yukihiro of Yellow Magic Orchestra formed Sketch Show. The group releases two albums, but as Sakamoto Ryuichi (the third member of YMO) began to contribute more to the group, the members moved on to work under the name Human Audio Sponge. Safety Scissors is Matthew Patterson Curry, a minimal techno artist who lives in San Francisco.
