Show Notes

This week show featured The Suzan, an all-girl band formed in 2004 by Rie (Keyboards & Guitar), Saori (Vocal & Guitar), Nico (Drums) and Ikue (Bass). Their album Golden Week For The Poco Poco Beat was released here in October on Fools Gold Records and was produced by Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn and John. They combine a wide range of influences to create music that is both dark and catchy.

Kasagi Shizuko was a popular Jazz singer and actress in the 40s and 50s. You can see her performing Jungle Boogie in Akira Kurosawa's 1948 film Drunken Angel here. The film was also the first time Toshiro Mifune worked with Kurosawa, for a total of 16 films together.
